Design Study #2

For my Locative narrative I decided to put together a physical tour of the town of Ambler where participants would move through important places in the city while also experiencing a unique narrative that would add a sense of history and emotion to the locations they were visiting. To accomplish this I decided that I would have two actors (one male, one female) act out a story in real time as they moved to different locations in the town. Participants in the tour would dial in on their cell-phones and begin receiving instructions from a narrator. The narrator would serve both as a guide for the story, and a guide of the tour. He would serve the purpose of letting participants in on background information of the two characters during moments of walking, and guiding participants as to where they should be at certain moments in time. So basically participants would be following around a couple for the day from a distance while they listened to dialogue from the narrator and the actors in real time on their cell-phones. A play would be acted out for the participants that would shift the setting from the stage to the physical environment of the town. Real restaurants and shops would be the backdrop where the story would take place. The story being told could be different every time always leaving the door open for people to come back and experience something new. The main goal is for the narrative to engage the participants and get them to connect not only with the characters in the story but also the town of ambler as they experience new spaces.

The narrative is semi-mapped out as location descriptions on my map. I'm thinking the best option of story is a love story.
